Hi, I’m Neil Balfour — an award-winning baritone, voice practitioner and recording artist based in Leeds. I perform at major venues across Europe and the US and currently work with the Royal Opera House as part of their Create & Sing initiative. Alongside my performance career, I run artist-led voice and piano sessions from my studio in Leeds. With over 20 years experience, I understand what performance pressure does to the body and mind — and that shapes how I coach. Many of my clients either struggle to use their voice because of anxiety or nervous system overwhelm, or need to access powerful sounds safely in high-intensity genres like rock and metal. Both require more than traditional singing lessons. They need grounded, technically precise guidance from someone who understands intensity. The Studio is a small, focused space shaped by listening, collaboration and respect for each individual voice. Sessions are artist-led, technically precise and grounded in real performance experience. Whether you whisper because of anxiety or scream with existential fury, you’re welcome here.

Warm, clear, and unhurried
These are simple sessions for capturing voice, spoken word, or piano, without pressure or overproduction. The focus is on listening, presence, and making space for the work to unfold naturally. Sound and recording can also be integrated into 1:1 voice coaching where helpful — supporting reflection, documentation, or sharing work in progress. These sessions suit singers, speakers, and artists at any stage, from simple demos to exploratory creative work. I work with sE Electronics microphones, Rupert Neve Designs hardware, and Nord Keyboards instruments.
Includes studio, equipment and artist-led guidance.
